Color us Blue: reducing the risk of colorectal cancer in the Storm Lake area

In recognition of colorectal cancer awareness month, the Storm Lake Area Cancer Task Force will hold a forum on Tuesday, March 31, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at the Storm Lake Middle School Media Center.

The evening will include three speakers: Sara Comstock, Associate Director of the Iowa Consortium for Comprehensive Cancer Control, will discuss colorectal cancer. Kirsten Beyer, a University of Iowa graduate student, will present research findings from a recent study on concerns about colorectal cancer in the Storm Lake community. Also featured will be Dr. Melinda Coogan, a biology professor at Buena Vista University, who will speak about local water quality and related statewide initiatives.

Presentations will be followed by an open discussion on reducing cancer risk in the Storm Lake area. Information from local organizations and free colorectal cancer screening kits, courtesy of Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, will be available. Attendees are invited to wear blue in recognition of colorectal cancer awareness month. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome to this free event.
